This Project has been on ice for a while. Not due to lack of available content, just life’s distractions.
One of which has been and is AI or Artificial Intelligence. I was surprised at how advanced it had become and freely available (with an Internet connection). But I need to quality ‘advanced’ as a relative term. It is not intelligent in human terms, nor is it artificial I would argue. It is a machine intelligence of sorts, and the most common at the moment is the Large Language Model (LLM).
I will be expanding on this as it is not only fascinating, but I am sure will become embedded in our lives in ways we may not appreciate yet.
Chomsky, whom I consider an intellectual Guru has this to say about LLM’s:
“High-tech Plagiarism”.
And I will misuse a seminal quote from Startrek when Bones says “It’s life Jim, but not as we know it”, I might say “It’s intelligence Jim, but not as we know it”. Know it as in Human intelligence, which brings up the issue of what do we know about our intelligence? There’s a journey!
Next time I will take a look at ChatGPT. One of the LLM’s we are talking about.
